Get Out The Vote

Since 2002, Faulkner has organized voter registration and education drives in diverse settings across North Carolina.

In 2020 and early 2021, she worked with a new group, Bull City Votes, on voter registration, get out the vote, and ballot curing in North Carolina and Georgia.

In 2018, Faulkner worked — with many other grassroots activists — to turn out the Democratic vote in Durham and elect Anita Earls to the NC Supreme Court.

In 2008, Faulkner co-founded Durham for Obama (DFO), an 11,000-member grassroots organization that mobilized voters then continued to push Obama to the left after he was elected. In 2017, DFO became Durham For Organizing Action, a volunteer group that works toward social justice by defending democracy and fighting racism, sexism, economic injustice, and all forms of oppression.

Fight Voter Suppression

In September 2016, Faulkner became a plaintiff in a lawsuit against the state of North Carolina for partisan gerrymandering:  Rucho v. League of Women Voters of North Carolina, et. al.

The case was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court in March, 2019.  Unfortunately, the Court ultimately ruled 5-4 against the plaintiffs. Faulkner explains why she was a plaintiff.

Protest

Faulkner began participating in protests against injustice as a teenager.

She has been part of the Forward Together (also known as Moral Monday) Movement led by Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II, President & Sr. Lecturer, Repairers of the Breach, since 2013. Forward Together seeks to redeem the heart and soul of the United States and repair the moral breach caused by centuries of systemic oppression and injustice.

Organize

Faulkner explains how everyone can become a grassroots activist.

In May 2019, Faulkner won the Susan Hill award for activism. Throughout her life she has worked toward justice on multiple fronts.

While living in Texas, she worked with the Texas Anti-Death Penalty Movement, as a journalist and an activist.

Prior to that she was executive director of Pro-Choice NC, a grassroots reproductive rights organization.
